Meet the Winemakers!

  Moana Surfrider Waikiki

On August 6th, many winemakers gathered in the confines of the Moana Surfrider Hotel to show their wares to the "thirsty" room full of retailers, restaratuers, and industry folk.

I was lucky enought to be among the people in attendance, and wanted to keep you all informed of what interesting wines are available now in select areas!

Peirano Estate Vineyards Is fro Lodi, Ca. and 4th generation Lance Peirano was on-hand to exhibit his wines.

There were 3 that caught my attention:

2006, Tempranillo

2006, Malbec

and the most popular, is the 2007 "six clones" Merlot. Just like the label, it comes from 6 different clones of the Merlot grape grown on their estate.

This winery is owned and operated by eric and Lisa Gordon. I had the pleasure of meeting with him at the tasting and learning about his unusual blends like: "Sophie's Romp" which consists of Cabernet, Zinfandel, Merlot, and Petit Syrah.

The wines are for their dog "Sophie" and all tasted beautifully. I hope to see more of this winemaker in the coming years.

J. Moss is owned by James and Janet Moss of Napa, Ca. They specialize in Cabernet, and James Moss began learning his trade in Texas. He moved to California where he learned from Gustavo Brambila, who used to be the winemaker for Chateau Montelena.

I absolutley love the J. Moss creations, and I was so happy to meet J. Moss and hear about his journey as a winemaker. It helps you understand the incredible amount of time and care that goes into a true craft wine.
