The Alternative Voices exhibit is aimed at exposing the few artists in

Hawaii who are stepping outside the normal bounds.

Gallery of Hawaii Artists

Situated in the Waikiki Landmark building, is a business called: Resource Suites. Within the halls of this office exists the Gallery of Hawaii Artists. The director, is a young lady named Carolyn Mirante. At just 20 years old, she has definitely has the insight of an artist.

Caroline gave me an overview of the G.O.H.A., and then a tour of the halls that are adorned with the work of several local artists.

Currently, GOHA is having an exhibit called: Alternative voices. It runs from 6/19/09 through 9/15/09, so there is still plenty of time to get over and see the art first-hand. Coming in October, GOHA will be hosting another exhibit, the details will be available on Hawaii Wine Lover soon.

Please enjoy the art.

Another great piece not commonly seen in Hawaii. This artist is on display at GOHA

Miss Mirante is an artist herself, and will be unveiling her work soon. When asked about her own style, she had an interesting explanation:

"I have a personal theory that subversion is the vehicle for self-improvement."

Carolyn brought up another valid point that I have noticed myself in a lot of "local art"... that it's unfortunate that there are so many good artists in Hawaii that choose to center their art around something that you can see by looking out your window.

Perhaps this gallery can help to inspire new artists out there to come forth with their work in a true representation of themselves.
