August issue

The year is more than half over, and the harvest season will soon be upon us again.

When I think back over 2009 thus far, I am eccstatic to remember all the new wines that I was able to discover and try. Whether it was on my own, through a friend, or from a wine tasting, I always welcome a great wine.

Many memories, whether in my adult or adolescent era, include wine. While that may seem questionable to some, I think that it is very cultural. Wine has been a part of human history for thousands of years. It seems to have been no different in my case.

In the past, different cultures produced food and drink from the resources they had. The Spaniards had different grapes available to them than the Egyptians, and thus when one drinks a Spanish wine, they are celebrating the Spanish culture.

In the technological advancements we are currently enjoying as a race, we are easily able to enjoy the same type of grape from California that was once only grown in Germany. But, you can still get a true representation of that grape by choosing to purchase one from there. The differences in the terroir will be something that seems highly unlikely to be reproduced for a long, long, time.

In short, enjoy what is available to you. When you find something that you really like, remember what it is, where it's from, and who made it.

Cheers,

.
