Oregon Wines!

Natalie's Estate Winery is located in Newberg, Oregon. The winemaker: Boyd Teegarden, has been crafting wine in the Oregon and Washington area for years, and named the winery after his daughter.
Mr. Teegarden recently visited Hawaii, and stopped in at Wine By Numbers. He shared some of his newest wines with her, and I was able to learn some information on his wine-making philosophy as well.
Mr. Teegarden wants us to experience the earth and grape as opposed to winemaking influence.
This is achieved by using above average grapes in a lower yield, minimizing handling procedures, and watching the selection of the grapes carefully.
Additionally, N.E.W. garners the flavors of their white wines by doing the entire fermentation and aging process in 100% stainless steel barrels to preserve freshness.
Mr. Teegarden uses European techniques for his winemaking, and there were no varieties made in excess of 200 cases for this year.

In learning and studying about different growing regions in the country, I found some interesting information on Oregon/washington vineyards.
In comparison to California's environment...Oregon has a different climate and growing conditions. In a lot of areas, there is not so much heat at such a concentration, and this means that there are less pesticides and herbicides used.
This transfers into the wine eventually, because the pesticides and herbicides used by some growers flow into the ground and finally affect the final outcome of the grape. Oregon does not have to use as much of this as California, and there are more grape growers already using organic farming methods for their grapes.
